He then attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate and the University of Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1980. Upon graduation, he worked for two years in the Gulf of Mexico oil fields. He practiced law in Galveston, Texas, from 1984 until 1988 when he returned to Huntsville, Alabama. The Law firm of Mitch Howie has been located at 107 North Side Square, Huntsville, Alabama, since 1991.

Mitch Howie is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, the Madison County Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is licensed to practice in state and federal Courts in Alabama and before the 11th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia.

Personally, Mitch Howie has been married since 1986 to his wife Debra Howie. They have three children, Schuyler, Turner and Cailin who are active in theater, music, horseback riding, soccer and other sports.

Mitch Howie represents individuals and small business owners in legal matters from corporate organization to dissolution and is a full service law firm. Legal business services range from determining what type of organization whether it be partnership, incorporation or a limited liability corporation. Individual legal services include adoption and divorce to estate planning and probating a will. The firm believes that a successful business or personal financial plan requires legal expertise in multiple areas. Mitch Howie successfully protected a minority shareholders rights in "squeeze-out merger" in Ex Parte Baron Services, Inc. 874 So. 2d 5445 ( Ala. 2003). In that case the Alabama Supreme Court disallowed the use of a minority shareholder discount in valuing the shareholders stock.

In representing injured individuals the law firm has successfully litigated or settled hundreds of personal injury cases with an emphasis on automobile accidents and uninsured motorists.

Mitch Howie is also licensed to practice in the Federal Bankruptcy Courts in Alabama. Debts discharged range anywhere from medical bills to car loans to title pawn/cash loan debts.

In the area of family law, the firm has attempted to obtain a fair and equitable division of marital property and the payment of child support based upon Alabama law. In Stewart v. Stewart 771 So., 2d 484 the Ala., Court of Civil Appeals overturned the Madison County Circuit Court requiring that there be a good reason for variation from judicial guidelines of child support awards.

Mitch Howie's nephew is Mitchell J. Howie. Mitchell has recently left the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Air Force. Mitchell is a licensed Texas attorney and is providing additional legal support on cases at the Law Office of Mitchell Howie. While both attorneys are solo practitioners, each Mitchell relies on the other for advice and counsel with respect to the most effective representation of all their individual clients. Mitchell J.
